Garland Resort golf courses - Lewiston, MI

Garland Resort is a classic northern Michigan golf retreat located in the small northern town of Lewiston. Garland features 72 holes of golf and, as of 2007, will feature a new 18 as well. The golf courses are all designed by owner Ron Otto, who designs his golf courses on his own set of rules. The courses are classic in that there is little earth moved and the courses blend nicely into the land. They are unique in that Otto employs par-3 finishing holes on two of the courses, and five and six par 3s and 5s on courses as well. The Fountains, Garland's premier course at the moment, features the odd 6/6/6 par 3/4/5 combination.

None of the courses at Garland will break your back, as this resort is intended to be a relaxing golf retreat. Swampfire and Monarch however can be imposing, with Swampfire featuring water on almost every hole, and Monarch playing over 7,100 yards from the back tees. Atypical of many northern Michigan golf courses, Garland is flat, resembling a heavily-wooded Florida or Myrtle Beach golf course more than a hilly northern Michigan course with elevated tees and steep elevation changes.
