Designed by Ron Otto, the Swampfire Course at Garland Lodge and Resort plays 6,854 yards from the championship tees with three forward sets. With water on 16 holes, Swampfire is undoubtedly the wettest of the Garland foursome. It plays something similar to a coastal Carolina course with tall pines, narrow doglegs and lots of small ponds and lakes. Many of the holes require some kind of water carry en route to the green.

Three founding fathers of golf in northern Michigan are celebrating significant milestones. The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa celebrated its 25th anniversary last summer. The Legend at Shanty Creek Resorts and The Masterpiece at Treetops Resort are in the midst of their silver anniversary birthdays this season. All three have aged with grace.
