In the colder months, Shanty Creek is a winter wonderland complete with more than 50 ski runs, but in the summer it offers 72 holes of championship golf. Shanty Creek's four golf courses are all distinct. The Schuss Mountain Course was ranked as one of the top public courses in the state. The layout offers a two-in-one package with a front nine that is mostly flat and a back nine that features dramatic elevation changes. The fairways are generous but bordered by dense forests. The layout also features abundant wetlands that come into play. The greens are lightning fast and there are many that are open in front, allowing easier approaches. It is no wonder this scenic and challenging course is one of northern Michigan's most popular golf courses.

Well maintained, straight forward layout, fairly forgiving in terms of landing areas and lack of forced carries, staff very friendly. Not usually as crowded as The Legend, Cedar River, or The Chief. Its not going to win any awards, but there are some pretty holes, is always kept up well, and the pace of play is usually good. I always have a good time playing the Schuss course.
