Really enjoy playing there but yesterday's round was my LONGEST round ever. 6 1/2 hours to the minute. Told the pro shop guy and it didn't seem to faze him.

I was the golf course superintendent at Belle River from 1968 - 1971. I was there during the construction, grow-in and finally the opening of the course.

There are a few corrections I feel compelled to make regarding the information on this course:
    1) The course opened for play in 1970 (not 1968)
    2) The greens were planted to Penncross Bentgrass and have matured into a Poa annua / bentgrass mix (not bermudagrass).
    3) The fairways were planted with a bluegrass / red fescue mix. A recent visit to the course shows this mixture (mostly fescue now) is still prominent. (not bermudagrass)

It would bevirtually impossible to grow bermudagrass in Michigan due to the brutal winters.

I am proud of my involvement at Belle River. I believe that #5 and #14 are two of the best golf holes you will find anywhere.
