Friday Golf
Went out on a Friday afternoon with my son. Teed off about noon and were done at 4. Not too crowded at that time. "Compact" course, but stil very playable
Great value
We played as a twosome. The course was fairly busy. We got stuck behind a foursome of hackers that we not excited about letting anyone play through. The marshal said he was going to pull them off at turn and let the 2 twosomes play through. That didn't happen! We were stuck behind them the entire back nine! We weren't in a big hurry so it wasn't that big of deal. For $20 it was a great time. The greens were in nice shape.
Course gone bad
I remember when this course was top class, even as a public course after it left being private. The pace of play is unbearable. Over 6 hours to play. The fellow hacks had no respect for the course or other golfers. They would take our balls from the middle of our fairway. They really let the place go I feel. Some points in the rough dont even seem like turf grass. Weeds are all over the place. The only bright spot is that the course is a donald ross, and the staff is friendly.
Good value
Staff was excellent, course in decent shape. It was challenging without being too difficult. I would say a good value for your money.
Fun with mature trees for shade
This is an old course, but one of my favorites.
It is a good one to be in the fairway, but if you are not you can still scramble and get decent score.
It is in great shape
Tsaxman
Course is a bargain to play, for a classic Donal Ross lay out, but is a shame to see the condition it is in compared to when it was host to Senior Tour events in the mid 1980s. Cart paths are atrocious, even worse than most Michigan roads, with broken asphalt and pot holes the norm in many places. Fairways and greens are beat up. It is as if, by opening it to the public, the greenskeeper quit or just shrugs his or her shoulders because the current clientele do not replace divots or fix ball marks on the greens. Some bunkers had no sand in them to speak of. It made me sad to see it this way.
Great day
It was good to play there. But the staff doesn't mind to get on the way and doesn't seem to care to leaf blow 5 ft away from you driving the ball
course needs some attention.
Greens were nice, rough was okay, leaves were everywhere though very difficult to find balls even in the fairways.Sand traps greenside were okay but packed down firm. the few fairway bunkers were caught were not good, weeds in them and not raked.
This course is very narrow
The course was extremely busy and play was slow. The fairways are too close to each other causing players shots to enter your fairway consistently. Several balls landed near us on more than one hole. Will not return.
great old course and great value!
The pace of play hurt rating. They need a ranger to monitor groups .
nice course great staff
this is a nice course withgently rolling hills. challenges playing up and down hills with generous landing areas a pleasure to play
EXCELLENT, A PLUS IN ALL CATEGORIES.
FROM START TO FINISH THIS COURSE, THE COURSE PERSONNEL & OTHER GOLF PLAYERS ARE PLUS..
Enjoyed a great round on a beautiful course.
Would definitely go back to play. Course in great condition.
It sure has changed
I first played this course in 1991 in the pro-am and it was nice. The main problem is the greens are in tough shape. The cart paths on 7 and 8 are a mess, plus a few more. It was crowded the day we played and balls were flying everywhere. Two balls landed at our feet, and one whizzed by our head with no warning. My buddy shot an 85 so he wants to play again, but I won't be back until it's fixed.
Great value!
Course was in excellent condition. Love all the beautiful oak trees and gardening around the tees. Only problem was, as we made the turn the staff allowed a slow pair to jump in front of us on the 10th. We ended up skipping the hole.
Great course, excellent value!
Course was in great shape, greens held well and rolled out smooth. Beautiful, mature trees along most holes. Unfortunatly I found them a little too often ;). Easy to find the ball but have to pitch out. Pace was slow but to be expected mid-day on a gorgeous Saturday. Staff was very curteous and helpful. First time here, will definitly be back.I bet it's really pretty in the fall.
Once a good course....
It's sad to see what has happened to this course over the years, and it's almost impossible to believe that it once hosted a Senior PGA event. The greens are in bad shape, the bunkers are overgrown and spotty, and the conditions in general are very poor. Instead of having water jugs throughout the course, they have a course employee driving around in a golf cart offering you a "shot of water" every 2 hours or so. It's just very sad...
Big difference from last time...
we played. Went from U.S. Open conditions with wet and long rough to The Open conditions with dry, hard and rolling out conditions. I putted well which makes me think the greens were in good shape and the tees, fairways and greens were all green. A little brown rough doesn't bother me since rough is supposed to be rough, right?
Busy for a Sunday afternoon but moved along at a good foursome pace.
