Quail Ridge Golf ClubHole Profile:
Quail Ridge Golf Club's No. 12

By Kiel Christianson,
Senior Writer

ADA, Mich. - The signature 12th at Quail Ridge contains all the elements that make the course so good: wetlands, length, rolling fairway, and a large green. The fact that this hole sports seven tee stations, rather than the normal five, lets you know immediately that it is going to require some extra skill.

At 438 yards from the tips, this par 4 requires a long drive-from any of the seven tees - that must also be very accurate. The entire fairway slopes from right to left, down toward the thick, brambly marsh that runs nearly the entire length of the hole.

Any tee shot that lands left of center will likely funnel straight down into the muck. Even a center-cut tee ball may end up in the left rough (listen to the voice of experience here).

The best tee shot will leave at least a mid-iron into the green from a tough lie: your ball will be above your feet. And because the fairway narrows into near non-existence as it approaches the green, any shot coming up short of the green risks a bad lie in the rough. Par is a great score on this lovely, and deadly, hole.
