When it comes to golf there's no better place to play than northern Michigan in the summer or the fall for that matter. Golf courses like Arcadia Bluffs and Bay Harbor Golf Club are asthetically among the most beautiful in the country. Everyone I know whose played Whistling Straits and Arcadia Bluffs say Arcadia is better.

I played the Dutch Hollow Golf Club in Durand, Mich. for the first time in almost 20 years, and did not notice any change to speak of: greens were large and in good condition, the fairways were wide and cut short, the front nine was a little harder than the back nine, with water in play on five of the nine holes. B nines are easy to walk and take your time to enjoy.

I recently shared a Letter to the Editor that appeared on MichiganGolf.com concerning Hessel Ridge Golf Course in Mackinac, Mich., with a longtime friend from Toledo and Hessel property owner. Like the first letter writer, we found both the grounds staff and the clubhouse personnel to be, at best, abrupt and rude. They were, in fact, doing us a favor by letting us play or at the very least, not very interested in our satisfaction.

At Hessel Ridge Golf Course several holes are of interest. However, over all I found this course to be just okay at best. What would have happened if she played from the tips like the men or if the men had played from her tees? We would not have heard the name Stacy Snider.

It was a bright sunny morning in the beginning of August, a great day to play golf. I decided to go to a golf course to have a pleasant smooth-running fun round of golf. We just had our family reunion, and "the boys" took Sunday morning off to go shoot a round. Our cousin chose The Rose in Leroy as the course to play. There was a little initial grumbling at the price ($45 for a round with cart), but by the end everyone was ready to sign up for next year.
