  • Grand Traverse Bear Golf Grand Traverse Resort getting a little fine tuning from new management

    Since the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians purchased the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in 2003, more than $1.5 million has been spent renovating one of northern Michigan's already premier resorts. Located along the sandy shores of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay, the resort offers 54 holes of championship golf, with courses by Jack Nicklaus (The Bear), Gary Player (Wolverine) and William Newcomb (Spruce Run). There's also a spa, tennis courts and pools.

    Lake Orion native Tom Gillis fulfilled the dream of every aspiring pofessional golfer last week as he qualified for the PGA Tour in La Quinta California. Tom survived the grueling six round marathon by finishing T-21st with a 10-under-par total 422, which included a 68, 69, and final round 70 to secure his 2003 PGA Tour playing card.
