The wide-open track found at Beeches Golf Club can easily lull an inexperienced player into a false sense of security. The rest of us will see the undulations in the greens, bunkers, water hazards, and unpredictable wind gusts off Lake Michigan to note that Beeches will present an exciting challenge.

Reasonably priced, with a great staff that’s always quick to remember your name (and often your favorite beverage as well), Beeches is a great time that you’ll want to repeat.

I enjoyed this course very much. When I first drove up, the unassuming clubhouse and almost treeless expanse made me wonder how nice a course it could be. But once I was on the course I appreciated its links-like layout. There are plenty of sand traps, many of them just in the right place to catch my drives, and lots of tall grass and mounding to make the layout interesting. The back nine has lots of water, that swallowed three of my balls. A few of the greens have mind-bending level changes and undulations, almost tricked up, but the greens weren't rolling fast enough to be unfair. There are a few surprises that would make the course play easier the second or third time around, like hidden water on 13 and a right-angle dogleg on 10. Wind will almost always be a factor on such an open layout. I usually walk, but I took a cart because it was a bargain, but I was glad I did because there are some long hikes between holes. A very good value for the money. I would gladly come back.
