I have played this course many times. The previous owners were either negligent or unaware of the pro shop staff and how terrible they were. Anytime you had a deal, you got questioned or ridiculed for getting golf at a sub par course (at the time) for a cheaper rate. The course conditions are nowhere near what they were 5 years ago. The staff was always impossible to deal with at a regular public course which was a problem.

This current year, the course in under new ownership, and have been to the course twice. The new pro shop staff is friendly and will work with golfers to try and accommodate everyone. The course conditions are the same as before, only because the previous owner was a cash grabber and did not leave anything in terms of resources for the new owner. Also, the weather at the beginning of the year has been terrible in terms of keeping up a course (rain almost every single day) which is hard to get conditions back to the previous years condition which was excellent. I believe that once the new ownership gets a year or two of business, the course will be in great shape again and I will be more than happy to play.

For the course overall, it has some challenging holes and the back 9 is interesting in terms for layouts due to having to layup between marshes on many holes. Front 9 is one of the best 9 holes I've played in terms of layouts. Great potential for this course to return to its former glory.

I was looking forward to my first visit to the Sawmill course in Saginaw and I doubt I will be back, and the people I golfed with feel the same way. We had the Michigan Golf coupon book and were told it was ok to tee off before noon when we called for a tee time (9:33) the week before . The cranky older man who checked us in was very rude and told us that we should have never been able to golf in the morning because we were paying at a discounted price and he couldn't believe we only had to pay $22.00 and said he was losing money. I felt like I was being scolded in the Principal's office. He blamed us, even though the person who made our tee time said it was ok. I was in the food/retail business as a manager and consultant for 40 years and if my staff ever treated my guests this way they would have been written up or fired. The coupon books are a promotional tool used to generate more customers in the long term, not to make immediate money. You can bet my friends and I will let others know of the poor service we received and I doubt we will ever be back. Had we been treated with respect we may have chosen to have lunch there instead of eating down the street.

I give the course a good rating. As far as the staff I give a bad rating, at lest the man who waited on us and he also was the course ranger was a moron. He comes out to see us at the fifth hole and starts bitching about us driving the cart and were driving it where he told us to. We were using there 90% rule and not parking by the greens. evidently someone was doing it but it wasn't us. So I guess he just picks someone out and starts bitching at them. Did he forget that there was groups ahead of us and behind us. I guess In this old mans eyes it was us. What an ass!! We won't be back. 8/27/2013

I played this course with an open mind and found out that it was a very good course to play, The greens and fairways were in good condition.

Even though member's who made tee times hadn't shown up to play, they wouldn't let me play as a solo because I didn't have a tee time. There were no golfer's on course and only five cars in the parking lot. Not being allowed to play on an empty golf course completely boggles my mind. Upon contacting them, they blamed me for the lack of customer service because they have a priority to honor member's tee times even if they don't show.
