About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 10/2019.
Silver Lake Country Club originally opened in 1925 as a nine-hole golf course. The back nine was added a few years later and soon after the course served as host to one of the first professional tournaments in the state. The ever-evolving golf course underwent a complete redesign in 1992 and in 2014 it was opened to the public. Silver Lake's layout sprawls across rolling hills, dappled with mature trees and edging along the shores of its namesake lake. The scenic landscape will challenge golfers with varied undulations ranging from subtle to dramatic. Water comes into play on several holes and while the bunkering may be sparse, the strategic placement along the greens will make you think carefully about your approach. Silver Lake Country Club is a layout that is player friendly enough for beginners and juniors but from the back tees, it also has appeal for seasoned golfers.

Silver Lake
Greens were a quite rough, especially on the front nine.
No courtesy
Played this course as a 2-some. Took 5 hours to play 18 holes. Got stuck behind 2 different 4-some that had zero golf edicate. Never let us play through. Other group was blasting terrible nickel back music with no concern for other people.
Course has hit rock bottom
This course used to be nice as you can see by the reviews from years prior. They are no longer maintaining it. The greens were unputtable. Which as you know defeats the purpose of playing. Looks like everybody already knew this because we were the only people on the course, so pace of play was great... Ended up paying more than their website advertised. The guy was rude. When we got done (7pm) the clubhouse was locked up and everybody was gone. This course won't be open next year if I had to guess.
Not worth it
We were charged $30 for 18 holes which is $5 more than we were charged last year for the senior rate. There was no one else on the course. The greens are in horrible shape so I can see why no one is playing at this course. For the condition the Greens were in we should have been given a discount not changed more. I doubt our group will be back, it's too bad management let the course get to this poor condition.
Silver Lake Country Club
A nice course that appears to be a fading jewel. Many of the greens had bare patches and the ball often bounced instead of rolling around the hole. While better than the previous round, the roughs are still somewhat long. The yardage is a little long for seniors on several par fours, but a move up to the senior tee is to generous.
Since there aren't many players, pace of play is great. The staff has been courteous but my interface has been limited. Hope that course conditions improve as it is a great value and good test of golf.
Looks like they gave up
Greens are shot . They have a disease of some kind...very bumpy missing grass. The overall condition looks like it's about time be closed.
Terrible greens
These were some of the worst greens I have ever seen!!!
worst greens ever
I've never seen a green so beaten up by snow mold. There were chunks of missing green everywhere. Your ball will skip and bounce on the green, so putting technique tends to be irrelevant.
Horrible Greens
Thought we'd try out a new track and sprung for a $35 tee time on Golfnow. Wasn't expecting a high end experience, but having learned that this was a private club that recently turned public, I did expect a decent course. The layout is old school, a bit tight and working it's way through a neighborhood. Tee boxes and fairways were in OK shape, but the greens were some of the worst I've seen. Literally like putting on legos, the ball bounced around like it was playing plinko. Pace of play was the highlight simply because there was only a handful of groups on the course, on a sunny Saturday afternoon in May. That says a lot.
Not worth the $$ and very doubtful I will return. Hope someone either buys this place and reinvests in it, or just shut it down....
What happened?
Nice clubhouse, bags were loaded onto our cart without being asked. Ok, cart ran out of juice after 5 holes. We pushed it up #6. I called the clubhouse and asked for another cart which they brought out. No apologies, nothing. Now onto the course. Old course, small greens, small tee boxes, plenty of weeds. The greens were beyond bad. I honestly think they are the worst I've played in Michigan. Can't be saved and Im sure I won't won't be going back. Shut it down....
Great old school layout
20 bucks for 9. Played in less than 2 hours. Course was in great condition. Why isn't this course getting more play. Large well maintained greens on a beautiful tree-lined course. Get out and play this.
silver lake
fun, well kept course. we will play there again.
golf now hot deals at good price.
Huh?
My regular course was hosting a tournament today (7/31/16), so I booked another low-cost area course as a single. I showed up an hour early for my tee time to chip/putt/hit the range, but when I walked into the clubhouse I was told I wouldn't be allowed to play, because the last time I was here I didn't wait for the other GolfNow players at my time. On 7/5, I remember finishing off my range balls, driving to the first tee with 10 minutes to spare, waiting for my tee time to hit, and seeing no one else in site. Apparently, it was my duty to babysit and go collect the other golfers and get them to the tee on time. It was 11:30 a.m. on a Tuesday, so the course wasn't exactly bursting at the seams. If I'm in the wrong here, fine. I don't need to come back. I've never had an experience like this in my life. As for the course, it's a typical residential track -- short with relatively tight fairways and forced layups. The greens are good, and generally sloped heavily back-to-front. The fairways are in average-to-poor condition. The bunkers look and play like they haven't been turned over since 1986.
greens very nice
course in nice shape to bad course seems not to be played very much we were the only people on the course. If you are looking to eat your pretty limited.
Nice course, not for novice players
We really enjoy this course. ex private course. problem is too difficult for an average player. especially if you don't hit it long. Look at the score card. they have two sets of tees, and the average player distances are long for par 4's. most par 4 holes are high 300 to mid 400 yard tee shots. We feel we hit it sort'a long at 240-250. Even at that range we were hitting 170-180 plus yard approach shots. Also, a ton of trees so, if you miss, you're out of luck.
I personally love this course....for the price. But I would not recommend for anyone who can't hit it straight and at least 230 off the tee. it's tough, but fair.
Silver Lake CC in Rockford
Good course-wide where it should be - narrower on the shorter par 4's- can miss and still score . Greens have some undulation in them with medium speed. Most of what faces u ahead u can see except a few holes with tight doglegs or greens located in a hollow. Price 4 9 reasonable and 18 w/ cart slightly lower than nearby courses with similar course set up and conditions. Watch out for the old women members they can be a little grouchy and they get on u fast because they only play the holes they like.
